Katy No-Pocket

 

Katy No Pocket was a lot of fun!  We started off the week by hopping around like kangaroos, on a hunt for the letter "K".  Their little hops were too cute!! These kiddos LOVE hunts of any kind.

We made our own "jumping" kangaroos too.  We talked about how other Mommy animals carry their babies.  The kids all concurred that it was pretty cool that their own Mommies have a pouch (bellies) to carry babies and that Daddies can give us rides on their backs to carry them.

We pulled out my huge atlas book at Austrailia where kangaroos come from.  We talked about how it's an island and how it's surrounded by the ocean.  I gave them a little blurp about Aborginal art, it was of course way over their heads.  We watched this video together to teach us how to do our Aboriginal art craft.   

They were all about painting with a q-tip.  I thought they all did a great job!

 

I love that you can pull a ton of different themes from these books.  We spent one of the days talking about tools, as they are mentioned in the book.  I knew this would be a hit with Stewart, Blake, Luke and Trevor.  They colored some tools and matched them up.

Bishops Pumpkin Farm

 Sorry I've been such a slacker about updating this blog.  I feel like I'm behind with just about everything!

Better late than never.

Our first field trip was to Bishops Pumpkin Farm in Wheatland.  

All of these kids have been here with last years busy bees (not Stewart, but I think he's been here before), so they all knew what to expect. 

 The girls turn.  Bronwen joined us too, since her school isn't until afternoon.

 Nice new upgrade at the farm.....built-in bathrooms.  We made a quick pit stop before heading to the hayride.

 It was such a nice day, we couldn't have asked for better weather. 

Just a week before we were sweating bullets with Noah, Calli and Evan's Field trip. 

 Getting ready for the hayride.  The road was muddy, so on our way to the pumpkins the tractor started to slip down a little hill.  The wagon started to slide and nudged a fence post.  Kelli thought that was part of the ride. :)  We didn't lose any passengers, so just added to the adventure.

The kids had a great time.  The only draw back is we had to cut it short to pick up, and drop off, the kindergarteners.  We didn't have this problem last year. :)  I guess that's what comes with kids growing up.

I had another fun week with the kids reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We sure missed Ava the first day and Trevor the next. Sorry for being a little behind with my post... nobody even gave me a bad time about it. =)

The first day we took turns catching butterflies with a net.

For snack that day, I told the kids they couldn't eat until they made a caterpillar with their food. Some of them weren't sure what to think at first but then they all got in to it.

The second day we did a sequencing activity. As I read the book, the kids laced each food the caterpillar ate on their string. 

We did a caterpillar snack again but this time with different food.

My favorite was the butterfly's we made out of chocolate and pretzels.... so yummy. I think this might have been the first time tasting this combination for some of the kids.

Curious George Goes to a Costume Party

I thought we had a lot of fun this week. On Tuesday we painted a big orange pumpkin. I was very impressed that most of the kids painted with in the lines that I had made. 

For the activity, I put an item into a closed bag and had the kids guess what it was. We shock the bag and then put our hands in it to feel the object. (Ava seemed a little scared to put her hand in the bag.)

On Thursday we learned the difference between a pumpkin and a jack-o'-lantern. We worked on our shapes and then added a face to our pumpkin to make jack-o'-lantern.

All the busy bees were so excited to make their pumpkins.

On Thursday we made some monkey masks. 

We had 6 very cute curious monkeys running around my house.
